Short, steep road link between downtown and Castle Valley Ranch
C Avenue isn’t a trail; it’s the road connection that makes riding from downtown work. Two-tenths of a mile of paved and gravel surface climbs about 130 feet from the old part of New Castle up toward Castle Valley Ranch, which pencils out to a legitimately steep pitch — most riders drop to an easy gear and grind it. Its job in the network is purely practical: it links Main Street and the downtown grid to the trailhead side of the valley, so you can start a ride from your front door instead of driving to a parking lot.
You’ll use it most as an approach. Riders starting downtown take C Avenue up to reach the Castle Valley side, and it shows up in town events for the same reason — it’s the natural climb out of the grid. Going the other way, it’s a quick coast back to Main Street at the end of a ride. Watch for cars; this is a shared residential street, not a trail.
