A first pump track for striders and small wheels

Tot Track is trail riding at its smallest: a pump track scaled for strider bikes and 16-inch wheels, with rollers a few inches tall and corners a toddler can lean into without leaning far. The whole loop covers about a hundred feet, which is exactly the point; small riders can lap it fifty times while the grown-ups keep one eye on them and one on their coffee. What it teaches is real, though. Pumping rollers instead of pedaling, looking through a corner, carrying speed — those are the same skills the big Highland trails run on, just learned eighteen inches off the ground. Plenty of New Castle kids put in their first laps here before they ever saw singletrack.

Balance bikes, small BMX bikes, and beginner mountain bikes all work; the only real requirement is a helmet. Ride it clockwise or counterclockwise, whichever way the current crop of kids has decided is correct today. When your rider outgrows it, the pump-and-roll habits transfer straight to Lower Alder Park Trail and the mellower network loops.
