The little link between Prendergast and Lower Jolley

Upper Jolley is a fifth of a mile of connector tread linking Prendergast Hill to the Lower Jolley Trail, crossing an open, sage-dotted hillside on the Town side of the network. Nobody’s ride is about Upper Jolley, and that’s fine; it’s the piece that turns two dead-end trails into a route. The open ground means sun hits it all day, so it dries fast in spring and stays usable deep into winter — locals fat-bike through here when the tread holds a crust of snow and the surrounding grass is frosted white. Grades are barely worth mentioning, about 35 feet up and 15 down. If you’re on it, you’re on your way somewhere else, which is exactly the point.

Hikers use it to string Prendergast Hill and Lower Jolley into a loop from town; riders pass through without noticing where one trail ends and the next begins. Easy in either direction on any bike or on foot. Thanks to the all-day sun exposure, it’s often some of the most reliably rideable dirt in the network during the cold months.

In winter it holds a white ribbon of snow across the frosted sage, distant snow-covered peaks on the skyline. Thanks to all-day sun exposure, it’s often some of the most reliably rideable dirt in the network through the cold months.
